What does a Sikh wedding consist of?
So, if you are also thinking like me, an Indian Sikh marriage will also be like an Indian marriage.
It will be different in some aspects, but let me tell you that their marriage is very different from our Indian marriage.
So, the Sikh wedding ceremony is known as ‘Anand Karaj‘ in which the bride and groom tie the knot after offering 4 types of prayers at Gurdwara Sahib.
In these 4 types of ritual, the bride and groom take 4 ‘Lavan’or walk four steps with each other and so on with the chanting of each mantra.
Sikh marriage is done with full rituals.
1. Karm (Engagement):
Karma is the initial ritual of Sikh marriage, which in simple words is the engagement ceremony.
In which Sikhs read their holy book and then decide the date of the next ritual.
2. Chunni Chadhai:
The Chunni Ceremony is a Sikh pre-wedding ritual where the boy’s family accepts the girl by giving her a beautiful Dupatta (Chunni) and blesses her.
It symbolizes welcoming a girl (bride) into the family of boys.

3. Gharoli Samaroh (Masti Bhara Samaroh):
The Gharoli ceremony is also called the Masti Bar ceremony.
The fun starts inside a vent, where the bride’s sister carries holy water in an earthen pot for the groom and finally, the ceremony is completed by bathing the groom with that water.
All the guests and family members participate in this ceremony and enjoy it with old songs and drums (dhol nagaade)
4. Chuda Samaroh:
In the Chura ceremony, the groom’s family follows traditions by giving a set of 21 red and white bangles to the bride.
And then on the wedding day, the same bangles are worn on the bride’s wrist.
Before wearing those bangles to the bride, the bangles are dipped in milk and washed with milk.
Then these bangles are worn by the bride and her hands are wrapped in a pink cloth.
